mysql - cant connect to server

Install of Rubystack on Windows XP fails with not able to connect to mysql server on localhost (10061).
I see a mysqld.exe process running via the task manager.

netstat shows process listening on 3306
I can telnet localhost 3306 and see its mysql

if I go to \mysql\bin and enter mysql -u root -p – I get prompted for a password. I enter the one that I provided with the installation dialog but get a failure trying to connect.

Could I have something from an old install that is preventing a clean install of mysql via bitnami_rubystack ?
Any help in resolving this is much appreciated

Can you please provide us the installation log. It is located by default at:

C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\Local Settings\Temp\bitrock_installer_*.log
