Thanks very much. Your advice has solved my problem. I installed the Bitnami MAMPStack and then the Joomla! module (and then aligned everything with my previous htdocs). And as a bonus, I noticed I have a nicer interface (manager-osx) rather than a having to use terminal to start Joomla! etc. Next thing for me to do is to see if it is possible to easily install many Joomla! sites over one Bitnami MAMP stack – I’ll check fora to see if that can be easily done.
Thanks again. Very much appreciated.

Hi letizia,

Thanks. However…you have two apache servers and two mysql database (although they are not running at the same time). Jamison was asking on how to install several instances of WordPress sharing the same apache server and mysql database. In the past another posted the steps for doing it (manually) but for Joomla!. (you can see the steps here). Basically you install BitNami MAPMStack (if you are in mac), then install the BitNami WordPress module. The following installations of WordPress should be done using the WordPress wizard but following the BitNami structure.

Topic: WordPress / Multiple WordPress Blogs

Hi Jamison, I don’t know if this may help but this is how I solved the same problem: (maybe you’ve solved it already – but it might be useful for other readers)
(note: I work on a Mac)
1-I installed the first copy of bitnami wordpress stack choosing an empty folder (“website1”) where therefore I installed my first site/blog
2-I installed the second copy of Bitnami WP stack on a different folder (“website2”): immediately it asked me new port numbers for the servers: I gave 8081 for Apache and 3307 for MySql
(note: this happened because I hadn’t turned off the servers)
3-Now to switch between different sites I do the following: let’s say I am currently working on website2 – the last one I had just installed. I go into the “website2” folder and click on “manager-OSX”. This opens up the server connection. I say “stop all” and wait for them to stop. Now the servers for website2 are not running.
4- Now I go to “website1” folder and click on ""manager-OSX". I “start all” the servers for this site.
Then when they are up and running I can go to my website1 login page and work on it.

That’s all. The important things to remember are:
-to switch on and off each website’s servers before and after working on that particular site
-And to keep servers running when making a new wordpress bitnami installation! So that bitnami will prompt for new port numbers for the new site.

I am a newby of wordpress and it took my a while to solve this “multiple sites” running with bitnami issue, especially since I am not a programmer and couldn’t find easy solutions on the web… I hope this will be useful for somebody.
Cheers. :)

Hi Andre, I am glad you solved the issue and thanks for taking the time to explain how you did it. Have you considered posting your question and answer to community.bitnami.com ? We want to move a lot of the BitNami support over there because it is much easier to search existing questions than in the forums, as well as voting up the most interesting/common ones (like this one :)

After some searching, I changed config/routes.rb from Redmine. If you change

map.home ‘’, :controller => ’welcome’

to

map.home ‘’, :controller => ’wiki’, :action => ‘show’, :project_id => ‘mp’

I get redirected to the wiki of project “mp” if I enter Redmine’s starting URL.

Topic: Redmine / Change starting page

I’m using Bitnami Redmine 1.2.0 and changed the configuration that it is reachable from http://servername like described in http://wiki.bitnami.com/Applications/BitNami_Re….3f. This works without any problems. If I type in my browser’s address bar “http://servername”, I get the starting page.

What I want is to change this, I want to be redirected to see a specific site like http://servername/projects/abc/wiki. How can I do this? Simply putting a http-redirect into “C:\BitNami Redmine Stack\apache2\htdocs\index.html” has no effect.

Topic: Cloud (Amazon AWS & BitNami Cloud Hosting) / Wordpress - Unable to create directory AWS EC2

Hi,

Having daemon own the htdocs folder is ok. The user under which apache is running (it can vary in different distributions: daemon, nobody, www-data …) should have access to the htdocs files so he can read it. I think that in a previous post we asked you to change the permissions so htdocs are owned by bitnami but setting the group-owner daemon. This should also work although the folder permissions in that case should have set to 775 instead of 755. That configuration would allow you to use external tools for copying files to your server as bitnami user while apache could still have access to the files. Or there was an error on the permissions, or some of the WordPress plugin that you were installing was checking the permissions and required to have the permissions set as 755. In any case, as you can manage your WordPress plugins from the WordPress admin having only access for the daemon user is enough.

I’m glad you finally got the issue solved!

Topic: Cloud (Amazon AWS & BitNami Cloud Hosting) / Wordpress - Unable to create directory AWS EC2

Thanks Victoria, I believe I fixed the last few issues I was having. Below are a few links I found useful in case anyone else is having similar problems.

I was able to fix permalinks after I found a thread on the WordPress.org forums. There was an extra “AllowOverride None” in my httpd.conf which was causing my .htacesss to be ignored even after wordpress was able to write the file. (There’s some good troubleshooting steps here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/pretty-perma…

After doing a bit more research I was also able fix the upload issue. The issue is apparently wordpress is unable to write to the filesystem unless the files are owned by the same user Apache is running under. In my case that meant: chown -R daemon: htdocs (just the main folder, the subs like wp-content still have the owner as bitnami). This seems to have fixed all delete/create/write issues I was experiencing. I’m now able to upgrade plugins, delete plugins, add new plugins, without having WordPress ask for FTP details. (I found this post had some useful information: http://www.chrisabernethy.com/why-wordpress-ask…

My last question is if have daemon as the owner for htdocs does it present any major security risks, or is there a specific reason why it wasn’t like that in the first place? Is having the htdocs folder owned by the Apache user bad practice? I’m just curious, as I don’t much experience with linux security and permissions.

Thanks for your help Victoria, you pointed me in the right direction.

Topic: BitNami en español / Ramas

Hola,

Hi daveth,

I have just checked that we found this bug when the user had installed XCode tools and it was fixed in the BitNami Joomla! Stack 1.6 and later. If you need Joomla! 1.5.x, can you try to installing the latest BitNami MAMPStack (that should also have this issue fixed) and then install the BitNami Joomla! module?

If you are ok with a newer version of Joomla!. Could you use the latest version of the BitNami Joomla! Stack?

Regarding the permalink, have you check this link

Also, are you already able to upload plugins? Can go to the /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/ directory and execute ‘ls -la’ ? Which are the permissions for the wp-content folder? Please do the same for the uploads, cache, plugins themes and uploads folder. All of them should have drwxrwxr-x.

Notice that we are setting 775 permissions because previously we changed the owner to bitnami user and daemon group. We change it to the bitnami user so you can access and copy files using scp/ftp tools and we changed it to the daemon group so apache can still have access to the files. That is way you are receiving the warnings about permissions. More details in this link

I’m sorry you’re finding these issues. Have you consider to BitNami Wordpress AMI?

Many thanks for your help. I have managed to get it to install.

For your information:

I had previously installed CollabnetSVN, which, unbeknown to me had installed Python2.5 and had created PYTHON_PATH AND PYTHON_HOME environment variables. I removed these variables and was able to install successfully

Thanks for your assistance!

Hi
Thanks. No, that libltdl.3.dylib does not exist; there are 16 .3.dylib files in my library folders, but not the file in the error message.
I have done some further research and also contacted Apple support. The Mac x86 version of Joomla! I downloaded is presumably 32 bit, while the new Lion operating system is 64 bit. I think this means there is an incompatibility. Is there a 64 bit Intel version of the Joomla stack to download? (and if not, how long before one might be available) And does this have implications for other stacks on Mac OS X Lion?

Hi,

We cannot reproduce it. Do you have any Python installation? If so, how did you installed it? If you open a windows command prompt and you execute the command ‘set’ do you see any PYTHON related environment variable?

Topic: Trac / Trac Stack Install Error - Help please

Hi,
this is my first time using BitNami and having read lots of good reviews from these ‘easy install’ stacks, I was very hopefull that i could get a complete Trac Stack working on windows very quickly.

Unfortunately, having downloaded the most recent stack, I have an error during the install which prevents the complete stack from being installed.

I am unable to locate a log file anywhere, where i can post the output from the error message, so i will do my best to summarise manually:

There has been an Error.
Error running …python.exe “…ez_setup.py”
Traceback (most recent calls last):
File …ez_setup.py, line 274, in main(sys.argv[1:])
file …ez_setup.py, line 208, in main from setuptools.command.easy_install import main
file …easy_install.py, line 15, in
file …sandbox.py, line 244, in AttributeError: ‘module’ object has no attribute ‘reduce’
The application will exit now.

Can anybody please help?

Many thanks

Topic: Cloud (Amazon AWS & BitNami Cloud Hosting) / Wordpress - Unable to create directory AWS EC2

Sorry I spoke too soon…Although WordPress was able to create an .htaccess file and put in content, I’m not able to view other pages with permalinks turned on. When I try to go to another page I get generic 404 error.

“Not Found

The requested URL /css/removing-outlines-on-click/ was not found on this server."

The exact content of the .htaccess is the following:

  1. BEGIN WordPress

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
  2. END WordPress

Topic: Cloud (Amazon AWS & BitNami Cloud Hosting) / Wordpress - Unable to create directory AWS EC2

Thanks Josue, I ran the command and it seems to have fixed most of my issues.

-I can upload/delete media with wordpress
-I can update permalinks and wordpress is able to write to .htaccess

-I still can’t update plugins, or add new plugins.
-I still can’t delete plugins

I noticed a warning when configuring WP Super Cache:
Warning! /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/wp-content is writeable!

You should change the permissions on /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/wp-content and make it more restrictive. Use your ftp client, or the following command to fix things: chmod 755 /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/wp-content/

Are these last few issues just a matter of changing some more permissions?
Thanks for your help
-Sam

Hello smorris,

Could you run the following on your server as root?

chown -R bitnami:daemon /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs
find /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs -type f | xargs chmod 664
find /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs -type d | xargs chmod 775
chmod 664 /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/.htaccess
chmod 664 /opt/bitnami/apache2/htdocs/wp-config.php

This should set the appropiate permissions for your Wordpress installation, let us know if it works.
