Bitnami Opens Flagship Product, Stacksmith, for Free Usage

Stacksmith Quickens Journey for Apps and Features to Multiple Clouds, Creates a Three Tier Product Family.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 23, 2018 — Bitnami, the leading provider of application packaging, today announced it has opened its flagship application packaging and maintenance product, Stacksmith, to free usage for applications that use assets from a public repository that are being deployed on public clouds. Stacksmith Public, which was designed with open source projects in mind, is available immediately to developers.

In addition to Stacksmith Public, Bitnami introduced two additional tiers in the Stacksmith Product Family: Stacksmith Team and Stacksmith Enterprise. Stacksmith Team enables teams within an organization to share projects, utilize assets from private or public repositories, and deploy on multiple public or private clouds. Stacksmith Enterprise is a single-tenant deployment of Stacksmith. This tiered approach allows users to choose the Stacksmith version that best matches where they are on their journey to multiple clouds.

All versions of Stacksmith provide:

  • The ability to build Docker images and Helm Charts for targeting Kubernetes.
  • Stacksmith Container / Virtual Machine (VM) Templates, which provide a consistent process for building both Containers and VM images in their assorted formats. These templates give users a jumpstart for configuring their applications using common deployment patterns, but can be modified to meet the unique needs of each application.
  • Security and policy enforcement capabilities to standardize and enforce Sec, Ops, and corporate standards/ best practices.
  • Continuous maintenance of application images, through monitoring and notifications of changes to packaged dependencies, along with a simple update process to relieve Ops’ burden and minimize corporate risk and vulnerabilities.

“By addressing the application packaging needs of development and the multi-cloud deployment and maintenance needs of operations, Stacksmith is effectively a bridge between Dev and Ops,” said Bitnami Vice President of Product Simon Bennett. “Stacksmith is designed to work with the tools software teams are currently using, giving them a way to target multiple clouds and platforms from one pipeline for their next feature release.”

Stacksmith enables companies to package their applications for any cloud complete with related dependencies. It then delivers ongoing value by continuously monitoring the dependencies, alerting users when updates become available, and providing a simple way to re-package the application. Primary use cases for Stacksmith include application delivery and maintenance, golden image maintenance, cloud migration and support of cloud service catalogs.

Stacksmith Public, Stacksmith Team and Stacksmith Enterprise are available immediately. For more information about use cases and the benefits of Stacksmith, go to www.bitnami.com/stacksmith. To sign up and get started with a Stacksmith account, go to www.bitnami.com/stacksmith/pricing.
