After days of messing with EC2 service I decided to try Bitnami's deployment even though I saw many posters mentioning permission errors. Installed it one machine and haven't had any issues - yet. Truth be told I'm sure I'll run into plenty as the site is built out further.
Now, the one that earned Bitnami a 1-star install. After scouring numerous threads and forums I still have yet to figure out why Bitnami won't allow me to SSH into the back end JUST to change permissions so I can adjust the cache to upload a WP theme. Should be simple, right? Not with this product. After days of searching, consulting with friends and nearing a deadline to launch a project near to my heart, I'm still stuck trying to figure out a "1-click install" solution. Yea, whatever. Save your time and do a clean install or pay someone to go through the headache.
After trying to get going with Wordpress by installing MAMP and then a Wordpress incident and having issues with plugin updates I found the Bitnami Wordpress stack a dream to work with. Unfortunately I ran into issues when I wanted to develop >1 site locally. The Multi-site version wasn't suitable for my needs. Found I was better off going back and installing plain Bitnami MAMP with as many Bitnami Wordpress modules as I wanted. If there was another way to do it I didn't find it in the support docs/forums/google.
If you will be building more than one site locally, this Wordpress installer probably isn't for you but there are definitely many awesome Bitnami options out there that will work.
