The Bitnami WordPress Stack provides a one-click install solution for WordPress. Download installers and virtual machines, or run your own WordPress server in the cloud.

WordPress is one of the world’s most popular web publishing platforms for building blogs and websites. It can be customized via a wide selection of themes, extensions and plug-ins.

More on WordPress

WordPress rose to popularity quickly because of it’s up-to-date development framework, extensive feature set, flexibility, rapid and multilingual publishing ability, multi-author support, and thriving community. Thousands of free and commercial themes and plugins are available to extend and personalize WordPress for just about every situation.

Launch on more than a single VM using Wordpress Multi-Tier

Bitnami offers a Multi-tier Wordpress configuration that puts the application and database on multiple virtual machines. This provides improved capacity over a single VM and separates the database contents from the machine where the application code is running.

On Microsoft Azure, you can launch this configuration into your account using the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

On AWS, the application uses AWS Relational Database Service as the database for the application, and you can launch this configuration with Amazon RDS with MariaDB or with Amazon Aurora using the AWS Marketplace.

On Google Cloud Platform, you can launch this configuration into your account using the Google Cloud Launcher.

Key features of WordPress include

  • Rich text and HTML editing
  • User roles and permissions
  • Hundreds of themes, many optimized for mobile users
  • Thousands of add-ons for ecommerce, SEO, email, spam filtering, analytics and more
  • Multi-user and multi-blogging capabilities
  • Multilingual support
  • SEO optimized
  • Plugin architecture and template engine

    Works for my needs

    by Steve Gossett on

Absolutely works for my needs. It was a bit of a challenge in the beginning but once I got the IP hammered out for web browser access and installed LXDE desktop environment (for a simple basic GUI) on the virtual machine I was ready to go. This is my sandbox and my learning tool.

Fast, simple to use - excellent product

    by Eliot Akira on

TL;DR - Do or do not, there is no try - you'll love it

Once I discovered how easy it was to install a contained Bitnami stack locally, I've been migrating all my WordPress sites under development as app modules. There's a noticeable improvement in performance compared to MAMP.

A few things I did to make it easier for me:

    - Rename URL to remove /wordpress

    - Copy "WordPress Module.app" to local directory and rename to wp.app

    - Make aliases for quick install and server start

    wp.app/Contents/MacOS/installbuilder.sh --wordpress_instance_name

    ctlscript.sh start

For a new project, I go to apps, bit-install instance_name. If I want to migrate a site to it, I use the Duplicator plugin to replace the contents of apps/instance_name/htdocs.

Thank you for providing all this and more. I'm inspired to try the Node.js stack as it seems like a perfect introduction for study. Docker support looks promising also.

    Pain free setup

    by Erik Sjaastad on

Fastest local setup ever. Completely pain free. Allowed me to work on my clients project instead of wasting time on tracking down local host errors. Already using it for my next client.

Perfect Solution I Was Looking For!!!

    by Michael Bryner on

I was using Azure Websites with WordPress on SQL database, and I did not like it, because of certain plugins not working right, then I found this image on Azure VM. So I tried installing and boom it works. I was looking for a Linux and MySQL database option, and I got it from Bitnami. Thanks for that!
