The Bitnami WordPress Stack provides a one-click install solution for WordPress. Download installers and virtual machines, or run your own WordPress server in the cloud.

WordPress is one of the world’s most popular web publishing platforms for building blogs and websites. It can be customized via a wide selection of themes, extensions and plug-ins.

More on WordPress

WordPress rose to popularity quickly because of it’s up-to-date development framework, extensive feature set, flexibility, rapid and multilingual publishing ability, multi-author support, and thriving community. Thousands of free and commercial themes and plugins are available to extend and personalize WordPress for just about every situation.

Launch on more than a single VM using Wordpress Multi-Tier

Bitnami offers a Multi-tier Wordpress configuration that puts the application and database on multiple virtual machines. This provides improved capacity over a single VM and separates the database contents from the machine where the application code is running.

On Microsoft Azure, you can launch this configuration into your account using the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

On AWS, the application uses AWS Relational Database Service as the database for the application, and you can launch this configuration with Amazon RDS with MariaDB or with Amazon Aurora using the AWS Marketplace.

On Google Cloud Platform, you can launch this configuration into your account using the Google Cloud Launcher.

Key features of WordPress include

  • Rich text and HTML editing
  • User roles and permissions
  • Hundreds of themes, many optimized for mobile users
  • Thousands of add-ons for ecommerce, SEO, email, spam filtering, analytics and more
  • Multi-user and multi-blogging capabilities
  • Multilingual support
  • SEO optimized
  • Plugin architecture and template engine

Debian Barely Runs, Couldn't even use SSH

    by doug sisco on

I was able to get WordPress to run on VMware but that's as far as I got.

There seems to be no way to use SFTP on the pared-down Debian on which it runs. The documentation tells you to create an SSL key and then save it to your Windows folder but fails to mention how to download a key when there is no way to transfer files.

DNS did not work so apt-get does not work because it can't resolve ("failed to start 'raise network interfaces' " error. Also, nano is not installed so I can't even edit any configuration files.

Even the standard 'reboot' and 'shutdown' commands do not work.

On the bright side, the vmware image is only 2GB.

All in One Migration Screwed up Existing Site

    by Tim Lyman on

This is an addendum to my previous review. I forgot to mention that the All in One migration tool recommended for site migration screwed up my existing site, causing me to have to upload the site files from a backup. Apparently the tool is shite for larger sites.

    Utter Crap

    by Tim Lyman on

If your goal is to migrate an existing WordPress site, forget it. You can migrate a site, but won't be able to do updates once you've moved it. I even modified my config.php to include all the extra code in the bitnami config.php. Still no go. Been working with WP for years, and I've wasted two days trying to figure this garbage out.

    by Mitchell Gamelin on

I mean c'mon, really? Just update to the latest stable version 1.13.35.2 that came out Feb, 5 2018. And you currently have 1.9.32.14-0 which was in 2015. THREE YEARS AGO!

    I want my pagespeed please!
