Why use the Bitnami Odoo Stack?

Bitnami makes it easy to run Odoo in the cloud, locally or virtually. The Bitnami Odoo Stack is:

  • Up-to-date

We track every release of Odoo and update our stack shortly after it's released.

  • Secure

If serious security issues are discovered, we provide new versions of Odoo as soon as possible, often within hours of the availability of a fix.

  • Consistent

With Bitnami, you get the same software stack and configuration regardless of where you are deploying Odoo or other Bitnami Applications. This makes it easy to migrate between different platforms.

With the Bitnami Odoo Stack compiling, configuring and all of its dependencies are taken care of, so it works out-of-the-box.

my experience with odoo and bitnami

Oh and by the way. If you want to say Secure the server stack with NGINX or harden it, don't bother. Bitnami stack is a highly structured, specially configured setup. adding new libraries, trying to get other non-bitnami pre-installed programmes to play nicely e.g. wkhtmltopdf is a real pain and causes loads of troubleshooting / downtime. In this case, create a ubuntu volume in aws, download a fresh install of odoo and copy the database and any custom html / qweb reports you've done. It's what I ended up doing - eventually going the "pro" route. There's no quick and dirty with what is an amazingly well put together and feature rich app. It's ERP and CMS. Companies pay millions for implementing this stuff. If you want anything that is not plug and play, go "pro" and invest your time wisely.

my experience with odoo and bitnami

So after using a cloud hosting company for odoo and finding everything to the gnat's whiskers was locked down I went down the bitnami route. This is great for development purposes, solution assessment but anything more "production" needs a clean install and download from the latest git repository. Restoring from backup to create say a new environment sounds to good to be true. And it is. Creating a snapshot whilst the system is still live is not best practice (this is what bitnami backup does in aws) as there will always processes in mid-operation that cannot be captured correctly. True enough, after recreating several environments from snapshot, I started getting really weird javascript and database call errors. despite not going anywhere near the code for custom development. Finally be aware that say if you use aws and want more than one instance you pay for bitnami AND AWS. My advice is once you're ready for more than one environment. drop out of bitnami and create an instance from scratch in aws, porting your (now ready) environment volume from bitnami.
